In Conversation

“In Conversation” is a piece for large ensemble and tape that is about the pervasiveness of the radio. From the outset and throughout, this piece is meant to evoke the Rauschenberg style of assemblage, wherein the artist takes found objects and creates something larger and more substantial through the recollecting and reframing of found objects. Using quotes from the classical “canon,” daily news broadcasts, performers’ representation of sounds in their own life, quotation of grunge staples, and a conversation with John Cage, this piece is meant to create a critical mass of “found sound.”

Note: the contrabass recorder can be substituted for bass clarinet, and a standard string quintet can be used in lieu of the quintet in this piece.
