I often struggle with the concept of notation. It’s useful for expressing technical demands and the information about a piece, however, when working with musicians, we often find ourselves asking for more of the emotional character in the music: “could you play this section more romantically?” etc. This piece served as an exercise in writing a piece of music that utilizes emotional affects more than technical effect.

Could you read a piece of music the same way you read a letter or a poem?
