This piece was written the week after I had graduated from Hofstra University, and while I was at the New Music on the Point Festival, in Leicester, VT in 2017. A lot of my music in the past few months has stemmed from this idea of a “personal narrative” in which I try to connect with the world by writing music that comes from my own personal experiences and feelings. This was a period of great turbulence in my personal life, and I was looking for an escape to reorient my life. NMOP was the perfect place to do that. Situated on a lake, surrounded by nature and wonderful musicians and thinkers, I was able to find a bit of zen. The idea of alternative notation practices and elements of indeterminacy are elements of my own craft that I consider to be essential to my aesthetic.
