Oroboros

for Baritone Saxophone and Interactive Media, 2021 - 9’

for Julien Berger

This piece was commissioned by Julien Berger for his recital in which he wanted to explore playing Baritone Saxophone with live electronics. Oroboros, (the spelling error is intentional, originally ouroboros), is a piece that explores the ubiquity of cycles and gravity in our lives. No matter how hard we try, we cannot escape the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Instead, we can change how we interact with and disturb those cycles before they begin again. In this piece, a new throw of particles represents a rebirth, and any interaction with the cycle and against the gravity is proof that we are living. Consider this piece a celebration of the idea that we are alive.
